To be honest, reading about the new budget today, I was rather disappointed. Though some changes have been made, such as raising car and aeroplane tax, it really didn't seem like that much of a step forward. We were left with infuriatingly long times to wait before changes take place, and were fobbed off with the wishy-washy statement that the government would force a charge for plastic carrier bags only if the problem was not dealt with seriously. This may be a typical government statement, but still its annoying that we have not been given clear facts and figures. I know that the financial climate may not be brilliant at the moment, but surely it would be better to spend money now and be free of Russia and the dependency Britain has with its oil. Britain's and Russia's relations are not great, and we don't know what the new presidents attitude towards us will be, especially with our demand to speak about Litvienko's (?) murder. In my first paper, I questioned Gordon's Brown's statement that Britain will probably surpass the 2020 targets, asking where the funds for the new power stations and research would come from, and this seems to reinforce my suspicions, with the budget continuing its slow improvement rather than a short burst which will put Britain in both a powerful political persuasive position ( 4 p words!) and also a high moral ground in the fight to make Britain greener!
Would love to hear your comments! (Sorry, I know I'm quite controversial)
