Penrice Community College - St Sustel, Cornwall.
A delightful video - creative, energetic, original and funny! We thought your community engagement was very strong with contributions from the Fire Brigade and a local taxi driver. Good luck The Eco Team!
Where's the number? Save energy wasted looking for house numbers.
Our Green Philosophy Penrice Community College
Penrice Community College is a secondary school in Cornwall. We have nearly 1400 students here, so it's safe to say, that we are a big school! With so many students, being green is not that easy, getting so many people to conform to the same ideals is almost impossible. However, people have quickly jumped on board, and now even the recycling can be a full time job some weeks!!
So, we have as a school, embarked on our mission to become an Eco – School, and with our Bronze and Silver awards already earned, we are flying towards gaining out Green Flag.
We know that being Green as a school is more of a process than something that happens overnight, so we are trying – students and teachers alike – to embark on a journey to learn and practice techniques to become better, more responsible stewards of the earth. We are creating a healthier learning environment for our students, and staff, and by doing this we can also help others.
We have some students that are very keen to get involved, for little or no reward, these students form the "Recycling crew" and "Eco Team". (It is ten students from our Eco-Team who are now in the finals of the Green SOS competition, run by npower).
We are already recycling;
We have recently had a water audit that showed very low water use, this was very pleasing.
We are now waiting to receive an energy audit, so that the energy monitors can chart their progress, and we can start our applications for renewable energy, such as Solar Panels and Wind Turbines.
We also run a gardening club, who are at present applying for grants, to improve the area and introduce more wildlife, and the number of students taking part is increasing almost weekly.
Our Green initiatives and strategies are fairly new to the school, but they are definitely growing fast.
