    A new invention?

Well...this isn't really new...but if you could change a gas, coal or oil powered station, then you could change it to something solar, electricity or water, which would help our environment. Problem is, the people who run the station care more about the money...

    Re: A new invention?

You are right, we need to re-think the source of our energy and how it gets to our homes/work.

You are also right about the fact that people in charge are more concerned with MONEY Super Angry than a real solution.Hmm

Perhaps big power stations are not the answer, perhaps lots more local providers or even just self sufficient houses.

Have a look at the video below from another post, its nearly 18 mins long but well worth the watch.

instead of big power stations, we could build just a small factory, with renewable substances, to house just provides we actually need.Smile

    Re: A new invention?

Well whenever you decide on something you have to lokk at both sides to it okay a small factory

Good sides- smaller less materials okay

The other side- We live in a big world and this big world needs big power and a way to get big power quick unfortunatly is a big factory

Possibilities- We could have a big factory but run it on something eco eg chicken poo you might want to look in to it

There you go a mini essay! woo Smile

    Re: A new invention?

Bais is to ermm I will give you and example

lets say you support the england football team okay right they lost a match to Italy

you had to right a newspapaer report on the event

In your report you would be bias towards england so in you report you would mention how england lost bravely and how they should of won. and when you talk about italy you will say how they only just won when englend should of won.

this shows that you are bias towards england

But bais could be used in many other ways not just newspapers

Cause we all support the environment does that not make us all bias?

Great example of having a bias

You are right about having a bias for environmental awareness - that is why you have to research which soultions are best and will work and not just go with a solution because you want it to work.

This is why Footprint Friends is so good as we encourage OPEN debate from all sides of a topic..

If you can find other websites or articles to support your ideas it gives more weight to your debate. You should also try to identify any issues or problems with your ideas.

    Have fun researching...

    Re: A new invention?

    I'll try to explain...

Many people in this country are fans of Jeremy ClarksonIck!. If we showed them two films about cheese manufacturing, one presented by Jeremy Clarkson and one by someone that they hadn't heard of, then they would be biased towards the Jeremy Clarkson film. Put simply, the other film could be better, but because of thei bias, they prefer the Jeremy Clarkson Film.

Hopefully that has cleared up your worries about bias.

Now can we PLEASE get back to what this forum is supposed to be about!!!

Refuse, reduce, repair, reuse, rot, recycle Daleks rock!!!

Life on Earth is too important for people to believe Jeremy Clarkson's opinions.

    Re: A new invention?

    Well said.

Ok ideas for new inventions..... what about solar kites so you could fly a kite and collect power while having fun...

Or white roof tiles so that our towns would reflect some of the suns rays...

Or school bags with a solar panel on and a hook up system so that bags could be put on a school solar capture hanger (would be cool in the shape of a tree) and the power could be used for a torch or a charger for a mobile.

Umm rain water collection in town shopping centres so that this can be used to clean windows, streets etc this may already happen... it should!

Keep your ideas coming - we could then poll to see which ideas we like the most

Lots of small steps can make Great strides! Founder of Footprint Friends - It's amazing what we can achieve.

    Re: A new invention?

This is not a brand new invention but one that is a first in the UK. Isle of Wight residents will benefit from  pioneering  technology that enables the creation of green energy from waste as a gasification plant being constructed at Island Waste Services Forest road site will soon be operating. The plant will generate 2.3MW of electricty, sufficient for 2,000 homes, using fuel produced from waste. The technology will be used to reduce the amount of bio-degradable waste sent to landfill.Big Smile

What is Gasification? - It's a two stage process in which waste is first converted into gas, this gas is then combusted to produce steam which is then used to generate electricity. This technology is already being used in Norway and Germany but as yet no where else in UK.Cool This is why we can put most things in our bins. In addition to all  the combustible waste extracted as floc fuel the Resourse Recovery Faclity also extracts metals for recycling.DevilBig Smile
