Are any of your ideas in the list?  I have a suspision that there's one in the North East section that might win (Go - 'Footprints Back to Nature').

    Hi Guys,

    Latest update on the BGC.

I have just completed and sent off the forms for the second round today. I am not too optimistic though becuase when I went to Bradford for the support day there were lots of businesses and big organizations with a lot more knowledge and experience than me.

But as the saying goes you have to in it to win it ! And there is nothing to loose.

Has anybody else done any competitions recently?

At our eco council meeting last week we have agreed to hold two more fund raising events after the success of the sponsored litter pick which raised over £200.

Firstly we are going to have a bring & buy auction, where people donate their un-wanted and un-used items and we auction them to people who will have good use of them, instead of the items being thrown away we will promote re-using.

The girls are going to organize a fashion show where models will wear recycled materials and clothes.

Any one else doing anything at your schools on the eco or fund raising front?

     Hi Guys,

Won't be buying my castle, didn't get the £1million. I didn't have very high hopes though as lots big firms were competing with budgets of hundereds of thousand of pounds as well as accountants, secretaries and office staff.

It was a bit like Dragons Den but harder as we had to fill in lots of questions about projected carbon savings, expenditure and rate of growth over the next three years. With our budget fluctuating from week to week depending on fundraising events like litter picking and bagpacking it was almost impossible to predict our cash flow.

But on the bright side NESTA have invited two pupils and one adult from our group down to London next week to attend various meetings. Sir David King the governemnt chief scientist ,who I met to and talked with at 10 Downing Street, will be there. Defra and the Energy Savings trust will also be attending.  Lots of sponsors and fundraisiers like the Lottery will be there as well as other Big green challenge competitors who will share their experiences and support each other.

I will be taking my Footprint Friends cards to give out and tell them how young people across the country are doing their bit to reduce their carbon foootprint and saving enegry.

    Smile

Well, good for you for being in it!

And great to hear that you have continuing talks with NESTA. Let us know how you get on.

Keep up the Footprint Friends campaigning.

    Hi There Eco Warrior,

Well done for doing so well, I'm sure you gained a lot from the experience. I have recently written to Sir David King to obtain some feedback on our initiative - so it will be brilliant to have you as our ambassador at that event - let me know when you run out of cards!

Looking forward to meeting you (finally!!) in October.

    Hi all,

Had a great time in London, met some really interesting people and organisations who want to keep in touch with me.

Sir David King was impressed with our work and said I had grown a lot since I had last met him at No 10 Downing Street.

I have been invited back to London in two weeks time for a meeting attended by the BBC and Channel 4 about how young people can influence the media.

The chairman will be a young multi-millionaire called Tom Hadfield who is passionate about helping young people fulfil their dreams.

Called in at the Royal Parks Agency office at St James Park just outside Buckingham Palace and they thought the garden in Hyde Park was a good idea. They gave me more contact details to get in touch with the HQ.

Our school has just been contacted by Daisy Tree appeal to put our order in for our trees for planting in November. Here is their website.
