Energy Saving Lightbulbs - My TwoPenceWorth

    My two pence worth...

Not really a review, but as no-one has posted it on here yet - at the moment (while stocks last) Tesco are selling Energy Saving Light bulbs for 1p (yes just a penny!) each.   I think it might be limited to 4 per transaction or customer but still a great deal.

I already have my house converted but bought some for some my friends who I've been trying to convince to change over...

    Hi PlanetMATTers,

Tesco is not my favourite store at the moment there are no bulbs left at ours.

They wouldn't help us out with our Eco garden project, there store is right next to our playing field and about 75% of the litter we picked on our sponsored litter pick came from there store. Angry

I know what you mean, but to their credit they are making some sort of effort (we just need to keep up the pressure on them to keep going further).

I gave my bulbs away and in doing that I think I've changed my friends opinion on CFL bulbs (even though they'd been in my house full with CFL's hundreds of times, they had this opinion that they weren't as bright and took ages to come on), and they're now looking at changing all their rooms over. Yes

    Hi,

Just thought that over 20 of our eco Council litter pickers worked for over 2 hours in the cold picking mostly their litter up that they could of at least donated an easter egg or helped with our project or even better send a member of staff to help litter picking.

But never mind the people who do help us will get the satisfaction of supporting a good cause.

I do think that Tesco are improving though but I reckon it is mainly for the publicty as they seemed to have jumped on the eco band wagon so to speak as tackling climate change has got more publicity in the media.

I've got energy savings bulbs throughout the house and think the lighting is not noticeable different, also you are saving money on energy and the bulbs last a lot longer.

The 'old' bulbs are going to be phased anyway.

The problem is with tesco or any other big brand store helping a local community is theres nothing in it for them. They have no real benefits for doing so. To get them to do anything what you need to do is tell them what's in it for them instead of how good it would be for the local community.

e.g tell them how it would improve promotion, or it could be a low cost promotion in the local area

tell them it would improve their links with the local community etc, etc

Its that sort of stuff u want to try.

Also it helps if you know the manager at the store. the other thing is who are you contacting, the head office or the manager at your local store, sounds mad but your more likely to get a positive response out of the manager!!Big Smile

I do know the manager at our local tesco and I have tried these but they aren't working. I have got a lot of media publicity for local businesses that are helping us. Such as Urban Farming, Peter Barratt's, Aldi, Starbucks, Simply Flowers and Elton Moor Flourists.

    But thanks for the advice.

Energy saving lightbulbs are an amazing product. Contray to popular belief they don't take ages to come on and certainly are any less bright in fact i'd go so far as to say that they are brighter then normal bulbs. I for one aren't going back to conventional bulbs
