I stayed up in London in a hotel this week, when I got to my room...
(I may make a post about "how green are hotel stays?" in the other parts of the forum)
...about 6pm I looked out my window to see Canary Wharf, I got changed and went for some dinner, etc etc time past
;
but I looked out the window again at just before 12 midnight and took the below picture...

I guess to some people not something new really, but surely something very simple to change here is organising turning lights off?
I can kind of understand the company logos being lit, and lights to warn aircraft, and the building on the left of the picture had the right kind of idea with more or less only the sloping roof light being on.
The main building you can see centre right of the photo is HSBC's offices, I'm aware they've made one of the biggest eco donations for a company ever (something like £100m), but isn't it simple to organise lights being off at this kind of time? (these buildings weren't built that long ago either).
I had a little dig on Google and found this Evening Standard Story on power wastage at Canary Wharf in general, which has a slight more professional photo than mine
What are your views on this kind of thing???
Slightly as an aside to my bit above, and as something I saw that I liked and a bit more positive
...
I also went to Woolwich Arsenal in Greenwich during my time in London and saw these split public litter / recycling bins
- brilliant, there's a small example picture at this link: Greenwich Street Bins
in Southampton you can't find a public bin almost anywhere let alone one which has its own accompanying recycling bin. Anyone else got these where they live?
