This sounds like a FAB idea!

    Hey,

I heard this somewhere, not sure where cos my memoary is a bit scatty, but ok. To stop throwing away so much food, you write out a shopping list for the week and plan what you will have each day. That way you won't buy more or less than you need. I am going to try it out, and I think we should all give it a shot.

    I totally agree.

This may sound a bit boring but...

if I shop at the Co-Op I only buy what I went in for (there is not much selection in our local - its big but old, and I like it).

If I go to Tesco (newly refurbished with billions of products and open 24 hrs a day) I always buy stuff that I didn't intend to buy. I think it is a deal as its on offer or good product placement makes me pick up products that I don't usually buy.

I know you are all not old enough to buy a family shop but ask your parents if they spend less in different shops....

You probably heard this in a report by WRAP which is the Waste Recycling And Packaging advisory agency. We throw so much food away through lack of planning and buying/cooking more than we need.

They have an initiative called 'Love Food Hate Waste' this is in the intro ...

'Love Food Hate Waste is the ‘Waste Not Want Not’ of the modern day, providing handy tips, advice and recipes for leftovers to help everyone waste less food.

Around a third of all the food we buy ends up being thrown in the bin and most of this could have been eaten.

Reducing food waste is a major issue and not just about good food going to waste; wasting food costs the average family £420 a year and has serious environmental implications too.

If we all stop wasting food that could have been eaten, the CO2 impact would be the equivalent of taking 1 in 5 cars off the road.'

The website link below will take you to some good and helpful advice.

I have met with some people from WRAP - they are a great bunch of people and what they do is incredibly interesting, waste is a huge issue and something that we can all influence.

Some great thinking... pass it on Yes
