Give up meat to save the planet!!

People will need to turn vegetarian if the world is to conquer climate change, according to a leading authority on global warming.

In an interview with The Times, Lord Stern of Brentford said: “Meat is a wasteful use of water and creates a lot of greenhouse gases. It puts enormous pressure on the world’s resources. A vegetarian diet is better.”

Direct emissions of methane from cows and pigs is a significant source of greenhouse gases. Methane is 23 times more powerful than carbon dioxide as a global warming gas.

Lord Stern, the author of the influential 2006 Stern Review on the cost of tackling global warming, said that a successful deal at the Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen in December would lead to soaring costs for meat and other foods that generate large quantities of greenhouse gases.

He predicted that people’s attitudes would evolve until meat eating became unacceptable. “I think it’s important that people think about what they are doing and that includes what they are eating,” he said. “I am 61 now and attitudes towards drinking and driving have changed radically since I was a student. People change their notion of what is responsible. They will increasingly ask about the carbon content of their food.”

we eat at the very least 1 vegetarian meal a week (normally more than that) because it tastes really good Big Smile

we make quorn lasagne and I far prefer it to beef lasagne (you dont get any hard to chew peices) you cant even tell its not meat but its just nicer to chew (and you dont feel all bloated once you have finished)

another one of our veggie meals is one of my favourite meals ever. we have quorn escalopes (which taste a lot like chicken) and we put them in wraps with lettuce and mayonase and it is the yummiest thing ever Big Smile

we have other veggie meals like spaggetti bolonase but with quorn. and we have tried quorn sausages before.

so to start you of with cutting down on meat try one of these delicous meals one a week. Smile but dont forget there are loads of other quorn meals so experiment and find your own Stick out tongue

Well i am a vegetarian and eat quorn and you can get it in all sorts of different ways it's really nice and i was reading a book that said that cows produce an estimated 14% of methane- this means they can cause more pollution than cars! so if people ate less meat then there wouldn't be as much need for them to be farmed which means less pollution!

Well, as for veggie products, I'm no expert but I do know:

there's stuff like quorn and tofu, and you can get it in different ways, like sausages, and joints (my friend had a roast quorn joint at Christmas!)

you can also eat beans and cheese and nuts for protein...

    *racks brains*

ooh, and quorn scotch eggs and quorn sausage rolls are WELL nice!

I am veggie and quorn foods are very nice.

My mother told me that being vegetarian helps to not have mood swings when you're a teenager.
