    Eco-friendly London Olympics

What would you use in the building of the 2012 olympics to make it the best, most eco-friendly olympics in the world? Solar power for the showers.? They must need loads of hot water, can you think of anything else?Confused

    Re: Eco-friendly London Olympics

The Olympic Commitee have said they want London 2012 to be the first sustainable Games so lets hope they can stick to their word.

I have read that the flame burning over the 2012 Olympic Staduim will use a low-carbon fuel.

There must be so many ways that London 2012 can be eco friendly. Recycled water in the toilets, solar power, successful waste management. One of the major things I think has to be that the venues have longevity so that once the Games are finished they will be used over and over - we don't want to waste the energy, time and resources  that will have gone into constructing it all.

Wouldn't it be brilliant if they could harness the power of the athletes!! Any ideas?

Make the events, training facilities and all that not too far to travel to so not too much fuel is used.  Try and get as many athletes and people participating in the games from different countries on as little flights as possible.  Also, everyone in Britain should get eco-friendly LED TV's which use up a bundle less energy than normal TV's.

When the world gets tough, the tough start helping.

how about loads of recycling bins and organic food served to visitors. plus, get foreign athletes to plant trees to offset the carbon emissions of the planes! they could have a plaque saying 'Usain Bolt planted this tree to offset his carbon emissions!'

Paper out of POO? Can this idea be extended to other aminals?  Just a thought.Huh?

How about Sun Tubes in all the  single story corridors and entrance tunnels to the arenas.Would save loads of electricity.Idea Obviously only used in the day but still a saving. Once installed, no charges from the energy companies for lighting in these areas.

    Re: Eco-friendly London Olympics

One of the things I hate to see is a load of water bottles on the floor where road runners pick a bottle up take a couple of sips and then chuck in on the ground. First of all the water should be tap water - Londons finest - I am stuggling bit on how they grab it - how about it's in a recycled paper cup with a reusable lid that had holes around the edge not so big that the water would spil if it was knocked over but big enough to sip water through and help with the air flow.. So runner grabs cup sips etc and then throws into a large collection bin... Maybe this is too much to ask!

    Any more ideas?
