The Environment Agency is calling for your questions on tackling climate change.

As you will know, in December leaders from around the world will meet in Copenhagen to agree how countries can work together to prevent climate change.  They will make big promises which young people will need to keep for decades to come. Indifferent

Young representatives will put your questions about climate change to business leaders and government at the Environment Agency conference on 9th November.

I don't think it's fair that poor countries are having a bad time with climate change when they have not caused it.

I think different countries should work together- we all contributed to climate change, so why should a single country be left to deal with it?

Actually, this will also possibly make countries get on with each other better! This sounds stupid, but it's true! Countries have huge meetings on how they'll cut their carbon emissions, but they never actually DO any of it.

    My question would be;

Why can't all the countries at the conference agree to put climate change on the national schools curriculum. And for the richer countries help the poorer countries to achieve this.

What a great impact on the world's carbon footprint this would bring at relatively little cost, as children can influence their peers and family and grow up with life long energy saving habits and also they will realise what a precious, unique and delicate planet we live on.

We have to treat our planet, people and all living things on it with respect, care and appreciation. With this outlook the world would be a much better to live.

It's no good saying it's up to the individual countries we can achieve a lot more if we work together.

Re: The Environment Agency is polling young people for Copenhagen

    Hello,

I think most of the general public are going to be sceptical about trying to do their bit to reduce climate change until public sector bodies and government departments are seen to be doing a lot more than they are currently doing to reduce their emissions. They need to be seen as setting an example. So why didn't the government sign up to 10:10?!

    Thoughts?

I think that countries should invest in green technologies. perhaps put things on hold like war which is expensive and other world promblems which just are not important.

that way we could all invest in something that could benifit the whole world.

Like I think that the government should start makeing new houses with solar panels instead of regular tiles and upgrading all of our houses. In the perfect world all this would happen for free but it's too expensive and this is why we should invest into making these sort of things happen Smile

    Hello MeeliMoo!

    How are you?

I completely agree! So much money is invested in war - not something which is beneficial to our future when green technologies would be.

I sound completely mad when I say this but I think answers to a lot of current world issues lie in nature! If more money was invested in renewable technologies I am sure we could really improve their energy output.

And if the government really wanted to they could roll out energy efficiency/green technology measures and they have done for example having insulation fitted in homes so that we use less heating.

We just need more and they need to do something about their energy use to show people they are doing their bit too!

I think that it is important to invest more money in green technologies, as alot of the energy we use is due to using things such as computers, T.V.'s, etc, so maybe if we found more enviromentally friendly ways to use these technologies, then less energy would be used through them :)

    thats a really good idea

its true the things we use the most are electrical and if they were improved so that they worked more efficeintly then not so much energy is wasted.

and what would be even better is if we could generate the energy we use to power them that way they would be efficient and we would be making all the energy ourselves Big Smile

Re: The Environment Agency is polling young people for Copenhagen

And funnily enough there has just been a news release about just what we are talking about -

"The UK will miss a legally-binding target to cut greenhouse gas emissions to 34% of 1990 levels by 2020, unless the government implements policies to increase renewables"

So maybe something will be done! Let's stay positive!
